Kia Sorento Hybrid and Diesel: What India Buyers Should Know

Kia India has confirmed that the Sorento will be available with Hybrid and Diesel powertrains. The company has also confirmed AWD for the upcoming SUV ahead of its India launch on September 4, 2026.

Kia Sorento Strong Hybrid
The Sorento will bring a strong-hybrid powertrain to Kia’s Indian SUV line-up.

This gives the Sorento a more conventional high-torque powertrain option alongside its new strong-hybrid setup.
Hybrid vs Diesel: Two Different Approaches
The Sorento is not asking every buyer to adopt the same type of powertrain.
The hybrid brings electrification, electric assistance and V2L technology into the picture. The diesel retains a familiar high-torque solution for customers whose driving requirements favour longer journeys. AWD is available with both powertrains on relevant higher variants.
Having both allows the Sorento to serve different types of premium SUV users rather than building the entire model around a single engine choice.

The final decision should also consider annual usage, driving conditions, running costs and the variant features offered with each powertrain.
Who Might Prefer the Sorento Hybrid?
The hybrid has a different appeal.
