Kia is getting ready to introduce another globally established SUV to the Indian market. The Kia Sorento will launch in India on September 4, 2026, bringing a new three-row premium SUV to the brand’s growing portfolio. For Indian customers, the Sorento will also mark an important milestone for Kia. It will be available with hybrid and diesel powertrain options, giving buyers two very different choices depending on their driving requirements. Production of the India-spec Sorento has already begun at Kia’s manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, ahead of the official launch.

Meet the Kia Sorento

The Sorento is not a new name for Kia globally. First introduced in 2002, the SUV has evolved across multiple generations and has established a strong presence in international markets. The current-generation Sorento combines the practicality expected from a three-row family SUV with the design, technology and comfort features associated with Kia’s newer premium models. Its arrival in India will place it above the Seltos in Kia’s SUV range, offering customers looking for a larger vehicle another option within the Kia family.

Kia Sorento India Launch Date

The Kia Sorento is scheduled to launch in India on September 4, 2026. Kia has already opened pre-bookings for the upcoming SUV. Production of the India-spec model has also commenced at the company’s Anantapur plant. The final variant line-up, complete specifications and official Kia Sorento price in India are expected to be announced at the launch.

A Distinctive New Kia SUV Design

The India-spec Sorento carries a strong SUV character while following Kia’s latest design direction. At the front, the SUV features vertically positioned LED headlamps accompanied by distinctive LED daytime running lights. Kia’s signature grille occupies the centre, while the sculpted bumper and silver lower detailing give the Sorento a substantial road presence. From the side, the Sorento gets dual-tone alloy wheels, black roof rails and carefully detailed body cladding. At the rear, vertically styled LED tail lamps, an integrated spoiler and clean surfaces complete the design. The overall styling gives the Sorento a premium appearance without losing the practical character of a large family SUV.

Three Rows Designed for Family Travel

One of the Sorento’s main attractions for Indian families will be its three-row seating configuration. The cabin has been designed around space, comfort and technology, making the Sorento suitable for everyday family travel as well as longer journeys. A curved display arrangement dominates the dashboard, integrating the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system into a modern cockpit. The India-spec Sorento is also expected to offer features such as:
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Electrically adjustable front seats
  • Powered tailgate
  • 360-degree camera
  • Digital instrument display
  • Large touchscreen infotainment system
  • Second-row sunshades
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
  • Multiple connected and convenience technologies
The combination of three-row practicality and premium cabin equipment will be one of the areas that sets the Sorento apart within Kia’s Indian line-up.

Kia Sorento Strong Hybrid

A major development with the Sorento is the introduction of a strong-hybrid powertrain. The India-spec Sorento Hybrid is set to use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid system. Current India-spec details indicate an output of around 238 hp and 380 Nm, along with an All-Wheel Drive system. This will also mark Kia’s entry into the strong-hybrid SUV space in India. Rather than relying only on a conventional petrol engine, the hybrid system combines an internal combustion engine with electric assistance. The result is designed to provide a balance between performance and improved efficiency during different driving conditions. For customers following the shift towards electrified vehicles but who are not yet looking for a fully electric SUV, the Sorento Hybrid adds another choice to consider.

Kia Sorento Diesel

Kia will also offer the Sorento with a diesel powertrain. The India-spec model is set to receive a 2.2-litre diesel engine, with current details indicating approximately 202 hp and 441 Nm of torque. The availability of a diesel version gives the Sorento broader appeal, particularly among customers who frequently undertake longer journeys or prefer the driving characteristics of a diesel-powered SUV. With both hybrid and diesel choices, customers will be able to select a Sorento based on how and where they plan to use the vehicle.

Safety and Driver Assistance Technology

Technology will form a major part of the Sorento experience. Along with the 360-degree camera and other driver-assistance features, the India-spec SUV will offer an ADAS suite designed to support the driver in a range of road situations. More information about individual ADAS functions, safety equipment and variant-wise availability will become clearer when Kia releases the complete specifications at launch.

Where Will the Sorento Sit in Kia’s India Line-up?

The Sorento will become Kia’s premium three-row ICE and hybrid SUV offering in India. It will sit above models such as the Seltos and give existing Kia customers a larger SUV option when they require additional seating, more cabin space and a higher level of equipment. For families considering a premium three-row SUV, the Sorento introduces another choice with a combination of Kia design, connected technology, modern powertrains and three-row practicality.

What About the Kia Sorento Price in India?

Kia has not yet announced the official Sorento price for India. Prices, variants and the complete equipment list are expected to be revealed during the launch on September 4, 2026. Rather than relying on early price estimates, customers interested in the Sorento can wait for Kia’s official announcement to understand how each variant will be positioned.

Kia Sorento Pre-Booking and Kerala Updates

With pre-bookings now open and the India launch approaching, more information about the Sorento will become available in the coming weeks. Customers in Kerala who are interested in the Kia Sorento Hybrid or Kia Sorento Diesel can enquire about pre-booking, variant information, availability and upcoming test-drive opportunities through their Kia dealership. The Sorento adds a new dimension to Kia’s Indian SUV range: a larger three-row vehicle with premium features and the choice of strong-hybrid and diesel powertrains. With the official launch scheduled for September 4, 2026, customers will soon get a complete picture of its variants, specifications, pricing and availability.
